Silicon Shortage

Allocation, the dreaded word among OEMs, has once again become the norm with the worldwide shortage of silicon products.

Demand is outstripping supply and many of the leading semiconductor component manufacturers are currently quoting lead-times of up to 55 weeks. Single-source components are a particular cause for concern. Amongst other factors causing shortages in the market is the fact that components are being used in vastly larger quantities by Smartphones, automobile electronics and the IoT industry.

The situation is only expected to ease towards 2020/21.

BSR Controls, which has consistently prided itself over the years on being able to meet customers requested delivery dates, has also been under stress since June 2018.
